Estimator/Project Manager
Description
This is really interesting work, with a luxury GC of the highest order. Think Rodeo Drive, 5th & Madison Avenue, Newbury St, Magnificent Mile, Bal Harbour, Las Vegas.
Our client builds for the most prestigious retailers and service providers, many of whom are European. They are a design/build general contractor, just north of Boston, specializing in luxury retail and hospitality interior fit-out. They serve most of the exclusive markets in NYC, Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Chicago.
They are a 2nd generation family-owned company that prides itself on being as committed to their employees as they are to their clients. They place a high value on carefully fostering relationships. As a result, many of their key people have been with the company for over 25 years, and the percentage of repeat clients they serve is very impressive.
Duties & Responsibilities
Standard duties of a commercial Estimator - you know what they are, you are already doing it, so no need to go too deep here. (We can get into that over coffee). But note, this is not boring take-off estimating, no counting 2 x 4’s and windows and doors. It’s more about collating the various sub-contractor bids, tweaking them, fine-tuning etc. But we’d like you to have done it for a minimum of 5 years.
Snapshot of what you'll be doing:
- You’re not just pricing construction - you’re protecting a brand. That is key.
- We are looking for an Estimator who can interact with clients, instill confidence, explain proposals, and negotiate with subcontractors.
- The role requires a lot of client interaction, negotiation with subcontractors, and contributing to winning jobs.
- This is a blend of an Estimator and Project Manager, someone eloquent and capable of representing the company, focusing on the preconstruction phase.
- Primarily qualify subcontractor bids, ensuring they are comprehensive and meet project requirements, then organize this information on spreadsheets.
- Drawings are constantly evolving
- Note, this is not boring take-off estimating, no counting 2 x 4’s or windows and doors.
We are looking for a strong estimator to guide the process - not just react to it.
The Opportunity
This is what I really want to discuss. The company is expanding rapidly, thus presenting an opportunity to join the team for a fast-track, career-advancing opportunity. The pace is rapid, the client list is 5 Star (think Armani, Coach, and Versace etc.) Standards are high and demanding, the President /Owner is an open guy, the workspace is bright and cheerful. With modern offices near the junction of Rt95N and Rt128, the commute is great (at least for North-siders and Westies)
You
You have an amazing attitude; you know how to deal with people. You can take a half-assed, rushed dream on a napkin from a client, figure out real intent, come up with a plan, enroll all stakeholders and get it done. Or, you may have to reproduce verbatim what some of the nations (and Europe’s) best space designers have come up with. You ask intelligent questions of absolutely everyone you need to. You have little or no fear and love negotiating. You are literate, eloquent and can defend your positions to Owners, Subs, and Officials if necessary.
You are a leader, people see you as a “go-to”. You share information freely.
In your current position, you are chomping at the bit to contribute all of the above, but you're not feeling appreciated.
And, you are probably, currently, underpaid (though not for long)!

Besides being a recruiter, I am also a construction pro, so I can give you a real, no-bull inside story on this great opportunity.
Might be for you, or it might not. But, maybe, just maybe, your time has come.
